Cairns Property View – July 2020

Happy New Financial Year. The QLD Government recently announced new cash grants for first home owners, small businesses, seniors needing household repairs and a $100 million program to build social housing around the state.

So, the first home owners grant is extended for newly-built homes. In addition to the existing $15,000 grant, there is now a $5,000 regional home building grant for those living in any newly built home outside of South East QLD.

When combined with the Federal Government’s $25,000 grant, people building new homes in regional Queensland could now be eligible for up to $45,000 in government money towards the cost.

Queenslanders also don’t pay transfer duty (stamp-duty) on homes costing less than $500,000, and a discounted rate up to $550,000. That translates to a saving of $15,925 on a home under $550,000.

The recent HomeBuilder grant from the Federal Government allows homeowners up to $25,000 to renovate their existing property. Find out more information and who qualifies here.
